What other funds can constitute match funding?
Local Authorities and organisations already run, commission or access manyc ourses and activities for young people during the summer. You can include funding allocated to those projects if you bring those courses and activities within your Summer Uni.
If you would like to discuss whether any particular courses and activities are appropriate for a Summer Uni, please contact us
Can we charge for courses?
We would recommend that, for ensuring open access and avoiding any barriers to attendance, courses and activities should be free. However, you will not be penalised if you decide to charge for any courses and activities.
If you intend to charge young people to participate, you will need to outline in your Application Form how you will ensure that the cost of a course is not a barrier to participation for young people; for example, because you will be offering bursaries. You should also explain why you need to levy charges if funding is being provided; for example, because it will enable you to offer courses at reduced cost or some can be free (even it not all).
Can we split funding over two years?
No, it's not possible to split the Summer Uni Grant over two or more years.
What is the role of the Verification Panel and who sits on it?
The Verification Panel consists of an independent group of experts, who are familiar with the work of Summer Unis. They will meet towards the end of a funding round to adjudicate on whether Grants should be awarded to Applicants.
The Panel consists of experts in the field of grant giving and includes representatives from the public and private sector, funders, young people and THSU Trustees.
How can we sustain our Summer Uni for a further two years without funding?
We will help you develop a longer term fundraising strategy by supporting you in the following ways:
- Running seminars and training to help you develop a fundraising strategy
- Identifying potential funders
- Engaging with Funders on your behalf and facilitating opportunities for you to apply for funding
We aim to find funding for another Summer Uni Grant in thefuture.
