We're growing up and getting out there!
Date: 23 November 2009
Summer Uni has been successful in Tower Hamlets for 14 years and we’ve built upon this to create a London-wide network of our model - Summer Uni London.
There’s high demand for what we do and national expansion is our next step. To do this we need a strong, clear and protected brand name that reflects what we are about because:
- We welcome all young people to our activities
- We operate year round
- We’re not a university!
Futureversity is our exciting new brand name, and has been developed with young people so we can strengthen our reputation at a local, regional and national level. Our vision is for every young person across the country to have access to a Futureversity. Also, we’re creating a license and a framework to ensure that young people everywhere can experience the same high-quality opportunities from us, wherever they are.
We want to share the excitement with you! Check out the short animation of our new Futureversity brand in the video below. As with all our projects, young people have been involved in creating the video which features Tower Hamlets Summer Uni's Youth Ambassador Shaju and a soundtrack by Music Space student Reyon.
Watch out for more announcements as we start to put the brand in place in 2010.
Croydon Summer Uni Youth Team win award
Date: 11 November 2009
Croydon Summer Uni's Youth Advisory Team won the Croydon Champion’s Award for ‘Team of the Year’ at a prestigious ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in Croydon. The nomination for this award came as a result of the group’s involvement in tackling the negative image of young people in the media through hosting a successful event 'Media Vs Young Success' on 28 March 2009 at Tiger Tiger in Croydon.

The aim of the event was to challenge the Media’s negative perception of young people by:
- raising awareness of the issue that young people receive very little or no positive coverage in the media
- recognising and praising Croydon young people for their involvement in positive leisure-time learning
- encouraging other young people to be a part of the solution and not the problem in the media.
On the night, the young people gave a presentation on their work. All donations from the event raffle is to be given to the project on behalf of Croydon Guardian.
