Congratulations goes to Croydon Summer Uni whose young participants were awarded the 2008 Festival of Sport Champions after winning awards for Best Teamwork 2008, Under 15s gold in basketball, Over 15s gold in basketball and gold in the football competition.

Twelve energetic participants also went home with tickets for the Olympic handover event and two bikes kindly donated by the Greater London Authority, after making the most of the free sessions in Capoeira, Climbing and Street Dance and using the recently refurbished Energy Zone and Fitness Zone facilities kindly donated by GLL.

Spartan from the TV show Gladiators joined the event to present the overall awards, which was a fantastic end to yet another brilliant Festival of Sport.

"It's important that these young sportsmen and women not only learn how to enjoy sports and the skills to do them but also to develop strong mental attitudes and remember when they are tired and weary, to look up, get up and don't ever give up." - Gladiator - Spartan, on the Festival of Sport participants

Congratulations to all of those who took part and thanks goes to the Summer Uni Coordinators, volunteers and to those who ran the variety of events on offer for making the event a success.

"Today's event shows how much young talent there is in London. Free opportunities like these are crucial to unlocking young ability. Huge thanks to GLL for providing their fantastic facilities free of charge and Lehman Brothers' volunteers for giving up their time to help us today." - Janan Smith, Summer Uni London Director
