Peer motivators

What is a Peer Motivator?

As a Peer Motivator you are ambassador for both your Summer Uni and for young people. You play an active role in the success of your Summer Uni and you help everyone there feel welcome and informed.

Peer Motivators market the summer programmes and support its delivery. Peers are supervised by a Co-ordinator and often supported by Team Leaders who are experienced Peer Motivators.

Is there an age limit?

Ages vary, but to be a Peer Motivator you will usually be between 13-25 years old.

Do I receive training and accreditation?

Training often is accredited and includes team work, equal opportunities, dealing with conflict, customer care, interpersonal skills, disability awareness and marketing.

As a Peer Motivator there is the possibility to be accredited. This can either be done via the London Open College Network (LOCN), or the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA). Throughout the process you will be supported by the Summer Uni or activity provider. Registration is optional and open to all volunteers, regardless of age. If you would like accreditation you will need to find out if your Summer Uni or activity provider caters for this.

Training and assessment is often integrated using 'Peer Handbooks'. These include all training handouts and guidelines, as well as a structured set of tasks, which are assessed at the end of the volunteering.

How do I get involved?

Summer Uni's advertise opportunities on their Summer Uni profile pages. Not all Summer Unis have Peer Motivator schemes up and running yet, but the ones that do you can access through the drop down menu at the bottom of this page. So keep checking this space!
